Where to find the Migration Tool

To access the migration feature:
  1. Log in to Monorail AI
  2. Click your profile picture (top right corner)
  3. Open the dropdown menu
  4. Select Account
  5. Scroll down to the Migration section
  6. Click Start Migration

Start a Migration

Once inside the Migration panel:

Step 1 — Select your source

Choose the platform you are importing from: * ChatGPT (OpenAI) * Claude (Anthropic) * Grok (xAI) Each source has a slightly different export process (explained below).

How to export your data

Before uploading anything to Monorail AI, you must first download your data from your current AI provider. Export from ChatGPT (OpenAI)
  1. Open ChatGPT Data Controls * [https://chat.openai.com](https://chat.openai.com) → Settings → Data Controls
  2. Click Export data
  3. OpenAI will email you a download link
  4. Download the ZIP file
  5. Upload it into Monorail AI Migration Tool
Export from Claude (Anthropic)
  1. Open Claude Data Privacy Controls * [https://claude.ai](https://claude.ai) → Settings → Privacy Controls
  2. Click Export data
  3. You will receive an email with your export file
  4. Download the ZIP file
  5. Upload it into Monorail AI
Export from Grok (xAI)
  1. Open xAI Account Data * [https://x.ai](https://x.ai) → Account Settings
  2. Click Download under “Download account data”
  3. You will receive an email with your export link
  4. Download the ZIP file
  5. Upload it into Monorail AI

Important Notes (Per Provider)

ChatGPT (OpenAI) * Conversation history is imported * Some metadata may be simplified Claude (Anthropic) * Message branches within conversations are not preserved * All messages are still imported in linear form * Images are not included * AI model names are not shown * Artifacts are not imported Grok (xAI) * Images are not imported * Artifacts are not imported * AI model names are not shown

Upload your exported file

After selecting your source:
  1. Go to Upload Exported Data
  2. Either: Click *“Upload a file”** * OR drag and drop your ZIP file
  3. Select the exported file from your provider
Supported format: * .zip file only

Start Migration

Once your file is uploaded:
  1. Click Start Migration
  2. Monorail AI will: * Process your file * Extract conversations * Convert them into your library format * Skip duplicates automatically

What gets imported into Monorail AI

Your data will appear in your Monorail Library, including: * Conversations * Messages * Timestamps (where available) * Thread structure (simplified if needed)

What is NOT imported

Depending on the provider, some data may not be included: * Images inside conversations (not supported) * Artifacts / generated files * Model names (e.g., GPT-4, Claude 3, etc.) * Branching conversation trees (flattened structure)

Duplicate handling

Monorail AI automatically detects and skips duplicate conversations during migration. This ensures your library stays clean without repeated entries.

Migration processing

Migration runs in the background as a secure processing job. During this time: * You can leave the page safely * You do not need to keep the browser open * Your progress will be handled automatically Once complete, your data will appear in your Library.

After migration

When migration is finished: Go to *Library** * You will see all imported conversations * You can continue chatting from where you left off

Troubleshooting

My file won’t upload * Ensure the file is a .zip * Re-download export from provider Migration shows incomplete data * Some providers exclude images or artifacts by design Nothing appears in my library * Wait for migration status to complete * Refresh the library page

Security note

Your exported data is processed securely and used only for migration into your Monorail AI account. It is not shared externally.
